EDAS DRIVER ASSISTANCE SYSTEM

The background system enables centralized managing of an entire bus fleet, making it possible to determine the timing and dynamics for the whole fleet to chosen criteria. The system was initially demonstrated in city buses by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.

The study showed a 5-10% reduction in energy consumption from the reference level, giving the system an extremely short payback period, indicating also the potential to reduce energy consumption by up to 20%. Such figures can be reached by monitoring driver performance, which the system supports by providing an analysis independent of weather and traffic conditions and vehicle types. The reseach showed a decrease of 80% in major speeding, providing a significant improvement in service quality and safety and savings in costs caused by damages. Driving ahead of schedules was reduced and passenger satisfaction increased in buses deploying the system.

The logic of the driver assistance system can be utilized also for active guidance of vehicles, by restricting or automating their functions.
